Helping Hands and Hearts
The Gift of Time
Each day our clinical care teams are joined by specially trained volunteers who step into the lives of patients and families in need of grace and compassion. They offer patients the gift of time – a presence in the room, a friend to talk to, a hand to hold, or respite for loved ones.
Patient Care Volunteers
In addition to the many Complementary Therapies offered by our Volunteers, we also offer these additional Volunteer Services wherever the patient calls home; a private residence, a long-term care facility, an assisted living community, or our own Hospice Inpatient Unit at Penrose Hospital.
Friends in Faith
Patients who identify with a particular faith tradition or culture may request a volunteer of the same or similar tradition or culture. We align this special relationship between volunteers, patients and families based on spirituality, religious practices, and/or theology and philosophy.
Veteran Outreach
Our Veteran Outreach Volunteers provide support to patients who have served in the military. Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care is a Level 5 Participant in the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s We Honor Veterans Program, the highest attainable designation. We recognize the core values held by those who have served our country. We match our veteran patients with veteran volunteers to ensure unity, understanding, and comfort at end of life. Veteran to veteran events, community events, presentation of flag pins, and certificates, are only a few of the ways we support our veterans.
Vigil Volunteers
Our trained Vigil Volunteers provide comforting presence to patients actively dying at home or in a facility. These volunteers are present for the family who may need support, or who cannot be with the patient, so “No One Dies Alone.”
Companionship & Respite
Our Companionship and Respite Volunteers provide essential social and emotional support by being present with our patients and engaging in activities including reading, watching television, playing games, and conversation. These visits provide peace of mind to caregivers who can leave and know someone is with their loved one.
Household Support
Our volunteers can help caregivers with light housekeeping and other tasks like meal prep, shopping, and organizing.
