Why Pikes Peak

You Have a Choice

With multiple hospice and palliative care provider options, it can be difficult to make a decision. You want the very best care for yourself and for your loved ones.

The good news is you have a choice. Your doctor, hospital or other healthcare professional may recommend a certain hospice or palliative care provider. However, the final decision on where to seek care for your loved one is yours. Here is why you should choose Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care.

Why Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care

We Are Non-Profit

We are the only non-profit community-based hospice and palliative care provider in Colorado Springs. As a non-profit we invest dollars in clinical education for staff to enhance care, offer additional therapeutic treatments, and accept patients regardless of their diagnosis, location of care, their insurance or ability to pay. It is important to know whether a hospice is part of a corporation with the primary goal of generating profit for shareholders or a community-based hospice committed to the highest quality of care. Our hospice gives back to the community by providing charity care for those with no insurance or resources to pay for care.

We have Longevity and Experience

We pioneered the Colorado Springs hospice movement and have been here since 1980, longer than any other hospice in the area. Each year, we deliver medical care to over 2,000 patients and families facing the challenges of a life-limiting illness.

We are ACHC Accredited

We hold to a particularly high standard of care as demonstrated by our accreditation through ACHC, the Accreditation for Health Care Commission.

We Are Experts

Our medical providers and trained and certified in hospice and palliative medicine. We listen to what is important to our patients and families and deliver care accordingly. We focus on quality of life so our patients, their families and loved ones are able to get the most out of every day — the very most from life.

We Offer a Spectrum of Care

In addition to medical providers, nurses, and certified nursing assistants, patients have access to a spiritual counselor, medical social worker, and volunteers. Whatever patients’ beliefs, our spiritual counselors will meet them where they are to address their needs.

We Have 24/7/365 In-Person Visit Availability

After-hours, weekend, holiday… not a problem. If a crisis arises, we are here for you. Our Call Center is staffed with Registered Nurses who triage patient needs and can dispatch a nurse to make in-person visits any time of day or night. We know how important timely communication and response is and we are honored to meet that need when you need it most.

We Have a Hospice Inpatient Unit

We have the only dedicated hospice Inpatient Unit in the area at Penrose Hospital that offers 8 private suites in a homelike setting.

We Honor Veterans

We demonstrate our commitment to caring for Veterans and their family members through our Level 5 Partnership with the We Honor Veterans Program. We are the only Level 5 Partner in the area with the national We Honor Veterans Program, the highest attainable level. Each year through extensive training and community engagement we maintain our Level 5 Partner status. We have a dedicated Veteran Liaison who specifically supports our many veteran patients through VA benefit navigation, bedside salutes, pinning ceremonies and more.

We Offer Complementary Therapies

We offer an array of complementary therapies alongside your medical plan of care. Complementary therapies such as Pet Therapy, Music Therapy, Touch Therapy and Aromatherapy bring peace, calm and joy to our patients.

We Stay with You

We build strong relationships with the families of patients in our care. These relationships continue after death. We contact our patients’ families in the early stages of the grief process and invite them to participate in our newly bereaved support group. The group offers fellowship and interaction with others experiencing similar losses. We offer individual, group and specialized counseling to the bereaved for a full 13 months after their loss.
