Grief Is Uniquely Yours: Finding Support After Loss

Your grief and how you experience it is uniquely yours.

The journey that begins with hospice care does not end with your loved one's passing. Grief continues long after a funeral or memorial service, and the process of healing can look different for everyone.

Even if you have experienced a loss before, this experience may feel entirely different. Each relationship is unique, and each loss brings its own emotions, memories and challenges. There is no single timeline for grief and no one "right" way to grieve.

Sometimes, having a supportive place to talk with others can help.

Grief Support at Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care

Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care offers a variety of adult grief support groups led by professional grief counselors. These groups provide a safe, supportive space to share, reflect and heal.

Participants can learn practical tools to navigate grief while exploring ways to reconnect with meaning, purpose and moments of peace.

Grief Journeys

Grief Journeys offers a supportive environment to share experiences, understand what to expect in grief, and learn coping strategies and resources.

This group is offered throughout the year, with each session meeting weekly. New participants are encouraged to join at the beginning of a group session and participate for the entirety of the series. After week two, the group becomes a private, closed group for the remaining weeks.

Facing the Mourning

Facing the Mourning is a six-week closed group that uses the workbook developed by the Heartlight Center in Denver.

The group engages with weekly practices designed to facilitate mourning, which is the outward expression of our grief. Topics include goal setting, creating a memorial, journaling and letter writing.

Each session meets weekly. New participants are encouraged to join at the beginning of a group session and participate for the entirety of the series. After week two, the group becomes a private, closed group for the remaining weeks.

Understanding Your Grief

Understanding Your Grief is an eight-week closed support and education group and is the cornerstone of the Voices of Grief model.

The group uses Dr. Alan Wolfelt's book, Understanding Your Grief, as a guide for exploring the grieving process and developing a deeper understanding of personal grief.

Each session meets weekly. New participants are encouraged to join at the beginning of a group session and participate for the entirety of the series. After week two, the group becomes a private, closed group for the remaining weeks.

You Don't Have to Navigate Grief Alone

Grief can be a deeply personal experience, but that does not mean you have to move through it without support. Connecting with others and learning practical tools for navigating grief can provide comfort and a sense of connection during a difficult time.

If you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a loved one, Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care's adult grief support groups are available to provide a supportive place to begin.
