Finding support for grief as the holidays approach

The holiday season can bring meaningful traditions, treasured memories and opportunities to connect with loved ones. But for those grieving the loss of someone important, this time of year can also bring renewed sadness, loneliness and difficult emotions.

If you're feeling the strain of grief as the holidays approach, you don't have to navigate it alone. Finding a supportive community where you can share your experience, learn about grief and connect with others who understand can be a valuable act of self-care.

Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care offers several grief support groups beginning soon to help individuals navigate loss and find support along the way.

Grief Journeys: Understanding Grief Together

Grief can look different for everyone, and there is no single right way to experience it. Grief Journeys offers a supportive environment where participants can share their experiences, better understand what to expect during the grieving process, and learn coping strategies and discover helpful resources.

Connecting with others who are also navigating loss can help participants feel less alone and provide opportunities to learn from one another in a welcoming setting.

Facing the Mourning: Making Space for Grief

Mourning is the outward expression of grief — the ways we acknowledge, express and work through the pain of loss.

Facing the Mourning invites participants to engage in weekly practices designed to facilitate mourning and support the grieving process. These sessions offer opportunities to make space for emotions, reflect on loss and explore ways to move through grief.

To help make support accessible to the community, Facing the Mourning groups are offered in both Colorado Springs and Woodland Park.

Give Yourself Permission to Seek Support

Grief doesn't follow a schedule, and the approach of the holidays can bring up feelings you may not have expected. Whether you're facing your first holiday season without a loved one or continuing to navigate a loss from years past, support can help you feel more connected as you work through your grief.

Joining a grief support group doesn't mean you need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. It simply offers a place to begin, surrounded by others who understand that grief is a deeply personal journey.

Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care is here to help individuals find support and community during difficult times.
